Job Summary/Basic Function

The Office of Diversity & Inclusion Graduate Assistant (GA) will serve both the Multicultural Scholars Program and the InclusiveMU Student Organization components for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. The graduate assistant will be responsible for the following:

Multicultural Scholars Program
• Assist with planning the multicultural scholars monthly and annual events (meet and greet, scholarship competition)
• Schedule and attending monthly meetings
• Program planning & logistics
• Assist with managing & tracking program requirements
InclusiveMU Student Organizations
• Presenting at L.E.A.D. Council meetings
• Assisting with coordination of L.E.A.D. Council meetings
• Assisting with assessing learning outcomes of L.E.A.D. Council
• Assist with attending and monitoring InclusiveMU student organization events
Other Office Duties:
• Monthly creation and delivery of the office newsletter
o Writing content for the newsletter
o Collaborating with the dean of students and program coordinators about various components
o Ensuring deadlines are met for completion and delivery
• Posting to all social media outlets, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, with event flyers, live updates of events happening on campus, and a variety of diversity facts or interesting posts.
• Assist with supervision of work-study students

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Must be studying in a graduate-level program and have an understanding of (or willingness to learn about) cultural differences and cultural competence
• Excellent writing, organizational and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently (with little supervision) as well as on a team
• Must be willing to engage in activities that will encourage introspection and self-reflection, open-mindedness, empathy, and intentionality
• Eligible and willing to drive a university van
• Ability to carry up to 50 lbs
• Work some evenings and weekends

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to engage and interact with students from multicultural backgrounds
• Strong communication skills and the ability to create and facilitate presentations and workshops
• Strong computer and research skills
• Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and social justice, or passion and willingness to learn more about this aspect of student affairs, higher education
• Strong critical thinking skills
• Comfortable working with students one-on-one and in group settings
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Special Instructions to Applicants

The GA is expected to maintain academic and work standards to retain the position and is expected to be a degree-seeking student in a graduate program at Maryville University. The GA will receive feedback regularly, and a performance evaluation at the end of each semester. Compensation includes stipend and graduate tuition waiver for up to 6 credits/semester (total package approximately $12,180 per term).
