Job Summary/Basic Function

Maryville University is seeking a skilled and motivated Master Data Management (MDM) Analyst to join the Office of Strategic Information (OSI). This role will be instrumental in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and usability of our master data assets, supporting our mission to deliver high-quality education and student services.

In collaboration with the Data Governance Council (DGC), this individual will play a pivotal role in maintaining best practices for managing master data across the institution. This position will be responsible for implementing MDM strategies, policies, and procedures to support data-driven decision-making, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance. The MDM Analyst will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and data stewards and unit custodians to define data standards, enhance data quality, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

Data Governance and Strategy
In collaboration with the DGC, implement MDM strategies, policies, and standards to govern the creation, maintenance, and distribution of master data within Maryville University.
In collaboration with the DGC and the Director of Institutional Compliance, develop and implement data governance frameworks, roles, and responsibilities to ensure accountability and compliance with regulatory requirements, such as FERPA HIPAA, and GDPR.
Partner with the DGC and data stewards to define and implement data quality metrics, monitoring mechanisms, and corrective actions to uphold high standards of data integrity and reliability.

Master Data Management
Partner with the Networks and Security team to oversee the administrative activities for all MDM platforms including configuration and management of Users, Groups, and Roles (including security levels and user access).
Develop and implement the creation, maintenance, and synchronization of master data records across various systems and platforms, including the student information system (SIS), Salesforce Education, Salesforce Data, and Salesforce Marketing Clouds.
Develop and implement data cleansing, normalization, and enrichment processes to eliminate duplicates, inconsistencies, and inaccuracies in master data sets.
Collaborate with the Information Technology team to configure and optimize MDM tools and systems for effective data management, accessibility, and security.

Data Quality Assurance
In collaboration with university departments and data stewards, conduct regular audits and assessments to evaluate the quality, completeness, and accuracy of master data assets.
Identify data quality issues, root causes, and opportunities for improvement through data profiling, validation, and exception handling.
Develop and implement data quality improvement plans, leveraging data governance policies and standards.

Stakeholder Collaboration
Partner with departments and data stewards to understand master data requirements, priorities, and master data management business rules.
Facilitate cross-functional workshops and training sessions to promote awareness of MDM best practices and standards.
Serve as a subject matter expert on MDM-related matters and provide guidance and support to OSI team members and university stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information management, data science, information systems, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
3+ years of experience in master data management, data governance, or related roles, preferably in a higher education setting.
Proficiency in MDM concepts, methodologies, and tools (e.g., Informatica MDM, SAP MDG, IBM InfoSphere).
Proficiency in relational database design principles, experience working with database management systems (SQL Server), experience with entity-relationship diagrams (ERD), and other modeling methodologies and tools.
Experience with data mapping, modeling, integration, and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and data integration tools (e.g. Informatica, Mulesoft, SQL Server Integration Services, etc).
Knowledge of metadata concepts and practices, experience in documenting and cataloging metadata, and ability to maintain a comprehensive data catalog.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess data quality issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders across the university.
Solid understanding of data governance principles, regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, FERPA), and industry best practices in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in Higher Education
Experience creating business rules with MVEL scripts
Experience with Salesforce Data Models
Experience with Salesforce Data Cloud
Experience in GraphQL and other graph-based languages to effectively navigate and orchestrate interconnected data structures within Master Data Management solutions.
Relevant certifications in data management, such as Certified Information Management Professional (CIMP), Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), or vendor-specific MDM certifications.
