Job Summary/Basic Function

The Assistant Track and Field Coach - Distance / Head Cross Country Coach will support the Head Coach in all aspects of the track and field program, with direct oversight of the distance running program. This role includes coaching, recruiting, and fostering the development of student-athletes, as well as ensuring compliance with university, conference, and NCAA standards.

Routine Decision-Making:
The Assistant Coach will collaborate with the Head Coach on training methods and program strategies, contributing to the overall success of the track and field/cross country program.

Formal Supervisory Responsibility:
Supervisory responsibilities are limited to aspects of the track and field/cross country program as assigned by the Head Coach.

Essential Responsibilities
1. Support in Program Management
Assist the Head Coach in managing all aspects of the track and field/cross country program.
Develop and implement effective practice plans tailored to team and individual needs.
Coach and support player skill development, ensuring the improvement of athletes’ performance.
Recruit and retain qualified student-athletes to maintain a competitive team.
Monitor student-athlete academic progress, ensuring compliance with academic standards.
Coordinate team travel plans, including logistics for away meets and competitions.
% of Time: 60%

2. Oversight of Distance Program
Take primary responsibility for coaching all distance runners within the track and field/cross country teams.
Develop specialized training programs tailored to distance athletes, ensuring their competitive success.
Provide mentorship and guidance to student-athletes, fostering a supportive and high-performance environment.
% of Time: 30%

3. Compliance and Regulations
Commit to understanding and following all rules and regulations set forth by Maryville University, the GLVC, and the NCAA.
Ensure the program operates with integrity, maintaining high ethical standards in all areas.

Minimum Qualifications

Comprehensive understanding of track and field/cross country, with a focus on the technical aspects of distance running.

Required Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to effectively teach and develop skills related to distance running.
Strong organizational and communication skills, capable of managing multiple aspects of a collegiate athletic program.

Formal Education:
A four-year college degree is required.
