This role is pivotal in enhancing Maryville’s commitment to holistic student development by encouraging community engagement, purpose and belonging.

The Director will develop and oversee initiatives that deepen students’ connection to the local and global community, support their spiritual growth, enhance their off-campus experiences, and foster a sense of social responsibility and civic engagement. The Director will also collaborate with various stakeholders to expand national service-learning opportunities and cultural immersion trips and support the overall off-campus student experience, including online learners.

Reporting to the Dean of Student Wellness, this role requires a visionary approach to building programs that promote access, opportunity, and transformative experiences across the Maryville community.

The Director will lead the planning and implementation of Maryville Reaches Out (MRO), the university’s signature service-learning initiatives (including MRO Beyond, MRO Over the Holidays, and MRO Spring Break), and align its mission with the 8 Dimensions of Wellness to enhance student belonging and purpose and belonging.

5. Partnership Management: Establish guidelines for building and sustaining partnerships with organizations that share the Center’s mission.

Routine Decision-Making:
1. Program and Event Coordination: Manage schedules, destinations, partnerships, resources for community engagement, wellness initiatives, and cultural immersion trips, ensuring alignment with objectives and safety standards.
2. Resource Allocation and Staffing: Oversee budget allocation, task assignments, and staffing for programs, including the Assistant Director, student workers, and volunteers.
3. Off-Campus and Online Engagement: Approve strategies to enhance off-campus and online student experiences, fostering belonging and access to resources.
4. Student Participation and Recognition: Assess eligibility for service-learning, wellness programs, and immersion trips.
5. Community Partnership Management: Prioritize and maintain collaborations with community organizations to align with Maryville’s mission and program goals.
6. Spiritual Programming Requests: Review and approve spiritual engagement activities that support diverse faiths and adhere to university guidelines.

Formal Supervisory Responsibility:
1. Supervision and Staff Development: Oversee the Assistant Director, student workers, interns, and volunteers, providing training, task delegation, performance evaluations, and professional development.
2. Conflict Resolution: Address conflicts among staff, student workers, or community partners to ensure a positive and collaborative work environment.
3. Budget Management: Manage the Center’s budget, ensuring financial decisions align with Maryville’s policies and support program and partnership goals.

Minimum Qualifications

2. Familiarity with supporting commuter and online student populations to enhance their sense of belonging and engagement.
3. Familiarity with ethical guidelines, legal regulations, and best practices related to service and spiritual life programs.
