Position Summary
The Speech-Language Pathology Program has two Graduate Assistant positions for the 2025-2026 academic year. The Graduate Assistants will develop leadership, collaboration, and communication skills while supporting the mission, vision, and values of the Maryville University Speech-Language Pathology Program. The Speech-Language Pathology Graduate Assistant will report to the Speech-Language Pathology Student Worker Supervisor and Program Director.
Position Requirements
- Coordination of scheduling both clients and students for observation, assisting, and provision of services in the residential and online Maryville University Speech-Language Hearing Clinics
- Maintain and assist with the day-to-day operations of the Maryville University Speech & Hearing Clinics
- Work in conjunction with the Clinical Coordinators to create and implement the mission of the Speech Language Pathology Program
- Assist in the University Clinics with the selection, procurement, of evaluation and treatment materials
- Manage, create, update and assist with electronic medical record systems information and training
- Maintain confidential record keeping for both clients and students
- Assist with training and supervision of student employee in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Program.
- Complete special projects essential to the accomplishments of the Speech Language Pathology Program.
Learning Outcomes:
- Develop leadership skills via mentoring and training of undergraduate and graduate students (e.g., mentoring of undergraduate Communication Sciences and Disorders Work Study students; training graduate Speech-Language Pathology students use of clinic technology).
- Collaborate with Communication Sciences and Disorders and Speech-Language Pathology faculty to facilitate department projects (e.g., preparation for interdisciplinary health screenings via Maryville Reaches Out).
- Effectively communicate via written and verbal modalities (e.g., correspondence with Maryville University Speech and Language Clinic clients via telephone and e-mail).
- Coordinate scheduling for the Maryville University Speech and Language Clinic.
- Manage day-to-day operations within the Maryville University Speech and Language Clinic (e.g., manage electronic medical record system for clinic documentation and clinic audiovisual system).
- Maintain student and client confidentiality as mandated per Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Model the core values of the Maryville University Speech-Language Pathology program (innovative active-learning, social and professional advocacy, self-reflective critical thinking, culturally responsive assessment and intervention, ethical and equitable care, evidence-based practice, diverse and inclusive perspectives, interprofessional communication, interprofessional education and practice).
Compensation:
- Stipend for the academic year: $1000
- Tuition award for the academic year: 12 credits/$13035
The award is based on 20 hours per week for 18 weeks each semester (August 18th -December 19th & January 5th -May 8th). It is expected that students are full-time status in the fall and spring semesters by being enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours in both semesters. Credits must be earned by May 31 each year. Tuition waiver does not cover fees, private music lessons, books, or OneCard charges. Students will receive ½ of their annual stipend during the Fall semester and ½ of their annual stipend during the Spring semester. Each semester, the stipend will be divided into 8 payments. Fall stipends are paid on or about September 15-December 31. Spring stipends are paid on or about January 31-May 15
