Job Summary/Basic Function

The Student Well-being Case Manager at Maryville University Student Counseling Services plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive support to students by offering counseling services, case management, crisis intervention, assessment, and community wellness programming and outreach to our diverse student population. This position enhances students' academic success and holistic well-being, promotes student engagement, and fosters a healthy campus community by helping them overcome barriers to education and basic needs. Applying Maryville University’s 8 Dimensions of Wellness Framework as a holistic approach to advance student well-being, the Student Well-being – Case Manager will support students in all areas of student life and among all learning ecosystems, including our online learners.

Essential Responsibilities
Case Management

  • Conduct assessments to understand students’ overall health and well-being needs.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized care plans, coordinating appropriate referrals and follow-ups.
  • Maintain a database of referral resources, coordinating with local agencies and community services.

Crisis Intervention

  • Respond to mental health crises with immediate support and intervention.
  • Partner with the Department of Public Safety and external mental health services as needed.
  • Create crisis response plans and wrap-around care strategies for students in acute need.

Community Mental Health Support and Programming

  • Design and facilitate workshops to enhance mental health awareness and resilience.
  • Proactively identify and address campus-wide mental health and wellness concerns.
  • Collaborate on mental health programming with university departments and student organizations, such as the HEROES Student Health Promotion Team.

Advocacy and Resource Connection

  • Advocate for students by connecting them with on-campus and external resources.
  • Guide students through insurance options and referral processes to community providers for ongoing care.

Policy and Program Development

  • Reports to the Director of Student Counseling Services and collaborates with the Dean of Student Wellness to develop, review, and implement policies and procedures for counseling and case management.
  • Serve as an active member of the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) to address student support needs.

Training and Supervision

  • Supervise and mentor selected clinical interns or trainees, providing guidance and support towards licensure.
  • Oversee work-study students, fostering a supportive and professional environment.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Accurately maintain confidential records of student interactions.
  • Provide periodic reports to the Director of Student Counseling Services and other university stakeholders as required.

On-Call Responsibilities

  • Participate in an on-call rotation, responding to crisis interventions and mental-health-related emergencies during evenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge:

  • Deep understanding of mental health counseling theories, ethical standards, and best practices for LCSWs.
  • Familiarity with mental health assessment tools, crisis intervention strategies, and college student mental health trends.
  • Awareness of Maryville’s academic programs, policies, and procedures as well as local, state, and national mental health resources.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong clinical skills in individual, couples, and group counseling.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Capacity for confidentiality, empathy, and sensitivity to students' needs.
  • Proficiency in crisis management, problem-solving, and time management.
  • Initiative and leadership skills for program development and team collaboration.


Education and Experience Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, or a related field is required with at least two years of experience; a Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) or a similar field is preferred. At least two years of clinical experience in case management and crisis intervention is required, preferably within a higher education setting, such as a university or college counseling center, or in a case management role.


Working Conditions
This full-time position primarily follows regular office hours, though flexibility for evening and weekend work is necessary to meet student needs and participate in campus events. This role includes a blend of direct student engagement, administrative duties, and collaboration with university departments and community organizations.
