Job Summary/Basic Function

This position will plan, create, coordinate/teach, evaluate and conduct simulation experiences for nursing students, in collaboration with the nursing faculty. This position is intended to convey content knowledge and ensure skill-building for our nursing students, enabling them to practice in all levels of care. The successful candidate will be in charge of training and mentoring full-time and adjunct faculty on evidence-based and current practices for simulation.
Job duties will include: • Coordinate simulation schedules across the Department of Nursing and the Walker College of Health Professions. • Coordinate maintenance and updates for hardware and software in accordance with the budget. • Evaluation of simulation faculty performance to include mentoring as needed. • Supervises Simulation Faculty and occasionally has oversight of Student Workers in Simulation. • Investigate or develop simulation scenarios for best practice and evidence-based practice, including integration of QSEN competencies, CHSE/CHSOS certification practices and SBAR. • Maintain compliance with the MO Board of Nursing Minimum Standards, CCNE and Simulation accreditation bodies. This includes virtual simulation across undergraduate and graduate nursing. • Prepares the overall simulation environment and all supporting equipment/supplies, moulage, and documentation (charts, orders, meds, laundry, etc.) for the entire student experience. • Ensure simulation curriculum congruence with term and course learning objectives. • Set up and reset (or oversee) lab spaces post-simulation to ensure optimal functioning of lab space and equipment. • Operates simulation mannequins, clinical equipment, and computer software/hardware • Conducts faculty and staff training on the use of simulators/simulation to include training and mentoring in developing scenarios, facilitation of simulations, and how to correctly facilitate debriefing with students based on best practice and simulation accreditation standards. • Issues contract for adjunct simulation faculty; approves timecards in ADP; completes Missouri Board of Nursing credentialing approvals, creates and manages schedules to include sick call coverage; conducts formal evaluations and mentors adjuncts with developmental remediation needs • Maintain inventory of supplies, equipment and conduct routine inventory updates and communicate needs to supervisor., assuring that all equipment is always maintained and in good working order. • Develops, administers, and evaluates effective assessment tools utilized before, during, and after the simulation experience. Teach and evaluate students as needed and in support of faculty using the best evidence-based simulation strategies and tools. • Plan and coordinate simulations for inter-professional learning experiences across the Walker College of Health Professions and the University. Collaborate for IPE Simulation at Summit Day in the Fall.

Minimum Qualifications

• Possession of a BSN and an MSN degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a specialization in nursing • Unencumbered RN license and able to be credentialed as a nursing adjunct with the MO Board of Nursing. • Minimum of 2 years of professional nursing experience working with/in healthcare organizations. • Strong oral and written communication skills. • Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA. • Knowledge of OSHA, HIPAA, and Hazardous Waste Disposal • Proficiency in MS software applications, including MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as Internet and database applications. • Knowledge of federal, state, and local nursing issues. • Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to simulator functions. • Knowledge of audio/video equipment and software for recording, duplication, mixing, and editing. Ability to learn new software and hardware quickly and independently. • Ability to assess, troubleshoot, and fix equipment failures in a timely fashion • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment; • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team. • able to work evenings/weekends on an as-needed basis
