Job Summary/Basic Function

Maryville University is seeking culturally aware Public Safety Officers assigned to the second shift to maintain a safe and secure living and working environment on a diverse and multicultural campus. Public Safety Officers will perform effective patrol, enforcement, and community services during the assigned shift. The officers will respond to service calls requiring excellent customer service to serve the diverse and multicultural campus population of faculty, staff, students, and visitors.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age. • High school diploma or GED • U.S. citizen or permanent resident as required to obtain a private security officer license. • No felony convictions. • Free of any type of chemical dependency. • Must possess and maintain (or obtain within 90 days of hire) an armed private security officer license under the guidelines of the St. Louis County Police Department. • Ability to obtain certification to carry an issued firearm, ASP baton, OC Spray, and handcuffs. • Knowledge of basic first aid, CPR, and AED. • Successful completion of a background investigation, psychological screening, and drug screening. • Excellent oral and written communication skills. • Ability to multi-task and set priorities. • Ability to drive a vehicle and maintain a driver’s license with an acceptable driving • record to operate University-owned vehicles. • Strong human relations skills with the ability to interact positively • Strong cultural competency skills and proven ability to appropriately serve a diverse University population. • Ability to work with others in a team atmosphere. • Good organizational and management skills. • Ability to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays
Physical Requirements: • Respond to any crisis that may occur on campus, including severe weather, fire, medical emergencies, hazardous material incidents, and chemical spill/accidents. Incidents may occur in adverse weather, high heat, cold temperatures, snow, rain, earthquakes, etc. • Physical stamina, including the ability to stand for extended periods of time, up to 4 hours • Ability to lift/push/pull/ or carry items up to 45lbs • No limitations of motion or function; must be able to enter/exit patrol vehicle, provide foot patrols as needed, provide first aid-including CPR unassisted
