Job Summary/Basic Function

Maryville University is seeking a dedicated Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. The Senior Accountant will report directly to the Controller and will work closely with others on the team. The successful candidate will play a key role in recording financial activity, managing and projecting against the annual budget, and ensuring the fiscal sustainability of the university overall.
Essential Responsibilities: • Monitor, record, and/or reconcile key accounts within the general ledger, such as cash activity, investments, contributions, and financial aid disbursements on a monthly or other frequency as required. • Prepare standard reports for distribution, such as weekly tuition analysis and monthly budget vs actual. • Prepare standard reports/analyses to assist with monthly financial projections such as auxiliary revenue, fringes, bad debt, course materials, etc. • Assist with preparation for annual audit, including year-end reconciliations and entries and preparation of audit workpapers. • Work with the Controller to monitor and support grant activity. Ensure activity posted to grant accounts is appropriate and in line with the terms of grant agreements. Perform internal audit of grant expenditures as needed. Assist in providing financial reports for grants. • Maintain the University’s credit card system, including adding/removing cardholders, importing monthly activity into the general ledger, and maintaining receipt. Perform/oversee internal audit procedures of credit card transaction submissions and receipts on a monthly basis. • Assist with responses to various reporting bodies and industry surveys such as IPEDS, Moodys, NACUBO studies, EADA (athletics) reporting, etc. • Assist with ad-hoc tax reporting such as MO sales tax returns, Washington B&O returns, 1042 withholding, 990, and others. • Partner with student accounts, financial aid, and solution squad to assist with proper recording/handling of cash activity, outstanding checks, wires, and other financial activity • Serve as a backup for other accountants and accounts payable with knowledge of key functions such as bank reconciliations, check runs, ACH submission, etc.

Minimum Qualifications
|
• Advanced knowledge of GAAP and private company/ non-profit accounting. • Advanced use of Microsoft office products, particularly Excel and Word required. • Ability to communicate clearly in across mediums, including, verbal communication, written communication, and in documentation of work performed. • Ability to prioritize based on relative importance while managing deadlines and providing 5-star service. • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or other business field with at least 2 years’ experience in a related or similar position
