Job Summary/Basic Function

Maryville University invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Executive Director of Human Resources. Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Executive Director will lead talent development and management to support the achievement of the university’s strategic plan. Additionally, the Executive Director will cultivate a work environment and culture that is consistent with the university’s mission and values. The Executive Director of Human Resources provides oversight of the key functional areas of human resources, including talent management, employee relations, compensation and benefits, legal and regulatory compliance, and performance management. The Executive Director will work closely with senior leadership to align our workforce strategies with our institutional goals, ensuring that our employees thrive in an environment that values diversity, innovation, and excellence.

Position Overview:

Essential Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement innovative talent acquisition, onboarding, development, and retention strategies to attract top-tier faculty, staff, and administrative professionals.
• Foster a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace culture where every employee feels valued, respected, and supported.
• Lead initiatives related to professional development, performance management, and succession planning to enhance employee skills and career growth opportunities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive data-driven decision-making through use of the latest technology tools and develop HR metrics to measure the effectiveness of people programs.
• Partner with key leaders to develop strategic workforce plans to align and drive achievement of our strategic plan.
• Implement and oversee comprehensive compensation and benefits programs that are competitive and aligned with industry standards.
• Provide guidance and support to resolve employee relations issues, ensuring a positive work environment for all employees.
• Proactively enhance knowledge of changing legal and regulatory environment, technology advances, industry trends, and best practices in HR, talent management, and higher education to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
• Cultivate a culture that aligns with the university’s mission and values and positions Maryville as a preferred employer through internal communications and employee engagement.

Minimum Qualifications

• Leader with a strategic mindset who has a demonstrated track record for driving change
• Proven track record of developing and implementing successful talent management strategies and programs
• Attention to detail, sense of urgency, and commitment to excellence
• Solid understanding of data-driven HR practices and experience leveraging HR analytics to drive decision-making
• Previous experience with HRIS systems implementations is highly desirable
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization
• Experience with budgets and financial analysis related to human resource programs
• Significant experience with HR technologies and applications.
• Knowledge of federal and state employment practices, and regulations, including EEO and civil rights regulations
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR leadership experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

• Progressive HR leadership experience in higher education or a similarly complex corporate organization.
• Advanced degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field,
• Professional Human Resources certification preferred. (PHR, SPHR, SHRMCP or SHRMSCP)
