Job Summary/Basic Function

Maryville University is looking to hire a Library Research and Instruction Specialist to support our online programs. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is responsive, resourceful, highly collaborative, and a creative problem solver. This person will serve as the primary liaison to online students and faculty for research, reference, and instruction support virtually. This is a 12-month, remote position. The successful candidate must be committed to fostering a welcoming environment for a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.

In this role you will:

• Provide reference, research service and instruction to online students and faculty in support of University values

• Promptly address and resolve connectivity issues to online resources through collaboration with vendors and campus IT

• Create, deliver, and assess content for active learning library instruction and workshops for students, staff and faculty online

• Provide prompt, accurate, and professional answers for basic to advanced inquiries using primarily online resources including databases, eBooks and streaming resources

• Serve as library liaison for assigned departments and academic majors across the University

• Serve as the Library website contact working with Marketing and Library staff to maintain and update pages

• Develop, implement, and enhance the digital student experience with the library

• Serve as an active member of the Library team in strategic planning, collection management, and assessment efforts with focus on the future of modern academic library technology, services and spaces

• Builds effective partnerships and outreach with appropriate on- and off-campus units, programs, and faculty, such as the Learning Designers and external partners

• Generate ongoing reports related to usage of all online resources

Minimum Qualifications

• MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited school, or appropriate equivalent

• Superb written and oral communication skills

• Exemplary customer service and interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively present information

• Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately

• Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment

• Ability to be adaptable, intuitive, and flexible

• Strong sense of initiative

• Proven ability to work and communicate effectively in a diverse environment

• Demonstrated knowledge of technology trends, standards, information technology best practices, and issues in academic libraries

• Knowledge of MS Office and enterprise-level systems employed for the management of library collections or the provision of library services including Sierra, Illiad, and Libguides

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of integrated library systems and OPAC software

• Academic library experience

• Experience working with diverse content and populations

• Working knowledge of web client and server applications, databases, Web programming environments, HTML, CSS, XML, XSLT, and scripting languages.
